چکیده

Deformation-induced martensitic transformation (DIMT) during tensile or compressive deformations of the bainitic steels with various carbon content (0.15 %C, 0.25 0.62 %C) was studied. The initial microstructure before deformation tests prepared by austempering at 400 °C to obtain structure consisting ferrite and retained austenite. volume fraction austenite larger in steel content. In all steels, exhibited work hardening than compression. This difference indicates suppression DIMT compression, actually measurements electron back scattering diffraction (EBSD) confirmed less reduction compression steels. Additionally, highest examined situ neutron clarified similar that obtained EBSD measurement. regression relation between applied strain conventional empirical equation revealed kinetic is strongly dependent stress polarity, but not significantly changed mechanism dependence polarity discussed texture crystallographic orientation DIMT.

Analysis of deformation induced martensitic transformation in stainless steels

Many studies monitoring the formation of martensite during the tensile deformation of austenite report data which are, in principle, affected by both the applied stress and the resulting plastic strain. It is not clear in these circumstances whether the transformation is stress induced (i.e. the stress provides a mechanical driving force) or whether the generation of defects during deformation ...

Strong Bainitic Steels by Continuous Cooling Transformation

Using metallurgical models, three steels were designed to obtain carbide-free bainitic structures in the as-rolled condition. Experimental castings were hot-rolled in a pilot mill and their austenite decomposition kinetics were measured using dilatometry. Tensile and Charpy impact properties were measured and the microstructures were characterised using X-ray diffractometry, optical and scannin...

Driving force for martensitic transformation in steels

recently determined LVl~ to be 111918 J mol-I at temperatures below 1000 K, and pointed out that their experimental data were free from various 'intercept effects' which had dogged earlier investigations. Similarly, for T<1000K, they deduced '\~s=51.44Jmol-IK-I. There seem to be no data on the variation of LVl~ or ,\~s as a function of x. However, Lobo and Geigerl found that LVll: and ,\S~S do ...

The Effects of Cr and Al Addition on Transformation and Properties in Low-Carbon Bainitic Steels

Three low-carbon bainitic steels were designed to investigate the effects of Cr and Al addition on bainitic transformation, microstructures, and properties by metallographic method and dilatometry. The results show that compared with the base steel without Cr and Al addition, only Cr addition is effective for improving the strength of low-carbon bainitic steel by increasing the amount of bainit...

Microstructure Evolution during Tensile Deformation of a Nanostructured Bainitic Steel

In situ neutron diffraction experiment was used during tensile testing at room temperature to examine the changes on the percentage and texture of both ferrite and austenite in a nanocrystalline bainitic steels transformed at two different temperatures 200°C and 300oC for different times to achieve the same phase percentages. Both samples showed an inadequate capability of austenite to transfor...
